A (partial) list of the 560 SL's repairs:
Engine compartment:
- Replaced warped valve cover, new gaskets both sides.
- New cam oiler plastic bits.
- New rear main seal.
- New left head gasket.
- Replaced monovalve insert.
- New timing chain, guides, and tensioner. This cured the
scary rattle at cold start.
- Recharged A/C with R12.
Body:
- Disconnected evil factory anti-tow sensor from alarm system.
- New grommets at front hardtop mounts.
- New driveline center bearing and support.
- Separated fog light circuit from headlights. Partially added rear
fog light, the wire only makes it halfway back.
- New hood emblem.
Cabin:
- Glued dashcap over cracked dash.
- Replaced broken ACC vacuum pods in dash.
- Leatheriqued front seats. Painted the sunvisors and center
console as well.
- New burl wood.
- Cleaned and lubed seat tracks.
- Removed rear 'seat', and fabricated a new deck. (Deck is easily
removed and seatbelts are still there. It's a ten minute job to
have the rear `seating' back, at the sound system's expense.)
- Installed speakers in new rear deck, with amplifiers.
- Repaired broken airbag power accumulator module.
- Replaced intermittent cruise control stalk switch with good used.
- Re-made rear deck to accommodate powered subwoofer.
- Welded broken sunvisor clip.
Still broken:
- Paint's getting a little tired.
- `Chrome' (aluminum) trim is hazy.
- Auxiliary water pump is frozen.
- The dash creaks where the new cap rubs against the A pillars.
- Could use a new muffler.
